You guys, I can’t even say how happy I am that you all love thrift shopping as much as I do. What is it about thrift shopping that gets me so pumped up? I think it is just the fact that you can find something so inexpensive and use it to create a beautiful space. Or, you can find something so inexpensive and make it into something beautiful. Either way, what’s not to love.
There is a HUGE stigmatization on thrift shopping. Can you find some not so desirable items at the thrift store. Sure you can. But, that just makes the thrill of the hunt that much more exciting.
There are certain items you can find that are great at the thrift store. Right now here is a list of five items I am personally looking for.
What To Look For At The Thrift Store
Vintage Mirrors are all the rage right now, and for good reason. They are gorgeous. Most of the people you have seen style them recently have found them are thrift stores or antique malls including myself. You can find beautiful mirrors at the thrift store in the frame section. Most thrift stores have a frame section, I have found that they throw in smaller mirrors into that section. If they are larger mirrors they are usually in the large picture section. If you are looking for some mirrors check out my last post, The Best Mirrors On Amazon.
Coffee Tables can be found in the furniture section. If you find a coffee table that has a good body to it, I usually test the quality of the table with a good ole’ “shake test”. Just rock it back and forth to see if it is still sturdy. If it has a good body, but might be an outdated look. No worries you can always have fun with it and get creative to make it into something you love. Paint can do wonders.
Greenery is always a good thing to look for. I always check the greenery section which is usually by the wreaths and baskets. Greenery is such a wonderful thing to have in any room, it automatically brings a freshness to a space. You can also use greenery to do a lot of diy’s with. I just used some thrift store greenery to make a DIY Topiary.
Side Tables are always at the thrift store. So many people get rid of side tables I guess because they are always there. Some of them can be really ugly and outdated. But, if it passed the “shake test” then it might be worth snagging and painting or doing a fun diy with it. They are usually pretty inexpensive and you can use side tables in several rooms of your home.
Vintage Books are gorgeous, and you can do so much with a beautiful vintage book. Look for the covers that have some character to them. Use them in a coffee table vignette, or you could rip the pages out to make a page wall. Simply stacking them on a dresser can be really beautiful, too!
I hope this list of items to look for at the thrift store helps you get out there and look. You seriously never know what you might find at. I actually have a whole page on my blog called “Thrift Flip” where I share what I’ve done with thrift store finds.
Displaying Your Thrifted Finds
I displayed my thrifted finds all over my living room. I hope by sharing my living room I can help you get some ideas on how to display your thrifted home decor.
