You guys, these DIY hot chocolate bombs are absolutely amazing. I’m not even kidding, they make the best hot chocolate I have ever had. They make the hot chocolate so creamy and adds the perfect chocolate flavor. Amelia loved helping me fill the bombs and put the yummy toppers on them. A lot of people over on Instagram have asked for the recipe so I figured I would put it in a blog so everyone can make them! They are such a fun DIY!
How To Make A DIY Hot Chocolate Bomb
What You Will Need
- A silicone mod (I found mind at the dollar store, but you can find these all over the place. Or you can order them online)
- Chocolate chips to melt
- Cocoa powder
- Pumpkin Spice seasoning (optional)
- Marshmallows
- White Chocolate Chips
- Mini Milk Chocolate Chips
- Oil (to make the white chocolate drizzle)
Making The Chocolate Bomb Mold
To make the chocolate mold you are going to want to temper your chocolate so it doesn’t stick. I personally melted my chocolate chips in my microwave in a plastic bowl. I melted them with a 30 second interval. Melt your chocolate for 30 seconds then take it out and stir it, then melt it again for 30 seconds and stir it, then go to 15 second intervals. You want to stop melting it when a little more than half of the chocolate chips are melted and then just stir your chocolate until it is all melted.
Chocolate Snap Test
Once your chocolate is melted then do the snap test. Put a little bit of your chocolate onto a parchment paper. Let it dry. Then snap it in half. If it snaps nicely in half then it is tempered. If it bends and doesn’t snap then it isn’t tempered.
Creating Your Mold
Once your chocolate is ready to go then put some chocolate into the mold and spread it around the mold. I popped it into the fridge to let it cool quicker. Once they are cool just simply pop them out of the molds and begin to fill them.
Filling The Chocolate Molds
Now it’s the fun part of filling them with all of the yummy ingredients. Add your cocoa powder (I used about a spoon full), pumpkin spice seasoning, marshmallows, white or milk chocolate chips.
To put the top of the mold onto the bottom put a pan on the oven top to heat it up a little bit then place the mold onto the pan to melt the chocolate so you can put it onto the bottom piece and it will act like a glue.
Add Your Toppings
It is time to make them look extra yummy. I melted some white chocolate with a little bit of oil so it would be a nice drizzle consistency. My little helped drizzled the chocolate onto the top of the mold. We loved how it ran over the side. Then add whatever you would like to the top. We did marshmallows, a couple chocolate chips, and and even a little pumpkin spice seasoning.
Enjoy These DIY Hot Chocolate Bombs
Now all you do it put a Hot Chocolate Bomb into a mug, and warm up some milk or water to pour onto your bomb and watch it meld and open up. They make the most perfect hot chocolate. They are such a fun DIY to make with your kiddos, too!
