Bedrooms are one of my favorite rooms to style. You spend a lot of time in a bedroom so why not make it as cozy as possible. I personally love to jump into a fresh and clean bed with super soft linens. In a bedroom I feel like there are five key elements that every room should have.
Duvet and Bedspread
It all starts with the bedspread. This is the “focal point” of the bedroom. My duvet set here is from Linens and Hutch I fell in love with the simple pattern of the white background with the light gray vines. This duvet set inspired the look for this room. It brings a simple farmhouse vibe. So I played up what the duvet was already bringing to the feel of the room by adding other antique/farmhouse simple elements to the room. If you are going for a different look, then play up whatever style your bedspread is giving off.
If you are in the market for a new duvet set or comforter I highly recommend Linens and Hutch. This is the second duvet set I have from them, and I have been absolutely in love with the quality they provide. When I got the other duvet which I’ll link here, Ribbon Patterned, I was so excited I had just washed it and got it all set up on my bed. Not two seconds later my dog had a little throw-up accident on it. I was mortified. This actually became a really good test for the Linens and Hutch duvet because I just grabbed it, sprayed some spray and wash on it, and it came out good as new.
I’m telling you this TMI story just as an example of how durable these duvets are. I have since then washed it several other times and it still looks brand new. I highly recommend Linens and Hutch and want to offer you a 30% off coupon code for your order. Use the code: homechronicles
Headboard
Nothing gives a more cozy vibe to a bedroom then a piece of furniture that has value to you and tells a part of your story. The headboard is where I incorporate this element. The door in the middle of the headboard is the front door from the first home my husband and I bought. It brings back so many wonderful memories every time I see it. The two smaller doors I found at a barn sale and painted them with a distressed look. This headboard hones in that farmhouse style, and simplicity feel of the bedroom, too.
Bedside Tables
Side tables are an element to a room that are sometimes forgotten about. We use them every single day. I chose to forgo traditional bedside tables. My mom found these two stools for me and she knew I would put them to good use. After I painted my hutch which you can read about here, Hutch Makeover, I decided that these two guys needed a fresh coat of paint . . . so I painted them Clary Sage from Sherwin Williams. I love the little subtle pops of color they add to the room. To be honest, I was sick and tired of having to clean off the bedside tables. They were just a collection space for books, cups, etc. All we really need are these two stools, and I have loved them ever since. I added the two white baskets on top of the stools to add an item with texture.
Pillows and Throw Blankets
For an added touch of “cozy” I like to add tons of pillows. When I jump into bed I like to sort of just sink into the pillows. You know what I’m talking about. Adding pillows with different textures on them gives a little bit of interest to the space. I kept mine very neutral this time. I always add an extra throw blanket to any space during fall and winter months. You never know when you will use it!
Seasonal Elements
How could I not add these pumpkins. I looked long and hard at the pumpkin patch last weekend for these beauties! I fell in love with the color of them. They are just slightly bluish greenish, but they are super light and I thought they would add a subtle touch of color without being over powering. Adding a seasonal element isn’t only fun, but it keeps your decor fresh. I also love that these pumpkins are a natural element. If pumpkins aren’t your thing then you could also add branches of fall leaves or sprigs of rosemary, etc. Have fun with this element.
I hope these five elements will help you next time you go to design a bedroom. If you have any other elements that you like to incorporate I would love to hear them in the comments!

What a beautiful room. I especially like your color choices. I have a tiny vintage 570′ farmhouse that is done in neutral colors – gray, taupe, creams, and whites with a touch of green here and there. I also love old doors and have collected them over the years. Your room is so cozy and beautiful . So happy to have found your lovely blog.
Blessings.
