I hope you guys are enjoying decorating for Christmas this year. We are still in full swing restoration on our new house the, Cottage On Franklin. I am really hoping we will finish before Christmas so I can at least decorate a few spaces before the season is over. For now, I would love to share some inspiration from a space I styled in our previous home. I hope to inspire you to decorate with a few items from the thrift store.
What To Look For While Thrifting
There are so many items you can look for while thrifting to help you decorate your home for Christmas. I usually start looking for Christmas decor to start coming out in the thrift stores around October. They used to put their Christmas decor our later in the year, but the last couple years I noticed them bringing stuff out sooner. Here is what I usually look for when I am at the thrift store for Christmas decor.
Christmas Trees
Oh my lands, I am always on the hunt for a good Christmas tree. Here’s a huge hint. Make sure you smell your tree before you buy it. I have almost walked out of the store with a smelly Christmas tree, and let me tell you, nobody wants a smelly tree! But, you can definitely find beautiful Christmas trees like crazy at the thrift store. Sometimes it is fun to put a tree in several rooms, but maybe you don’t want to spend all of your Christmas budget on a new tree. This is a great alternative.
Wreaths
Sometimes you can find really beautiful decked out Christmas wreaths at the thrift store. Most of the time though I just look for your basic twig wreath or greenery wreath to then go and do a diy project on the wreath. That way I can customize my wreath and I only had to spend a few dollars on the basic wreath. If you find a wreath that has a bunch of decor on it, you can always simply take off whatever was put on it.
Ornaments
Of course you can find all kind of ornaments! I have found some really beautiful mercury ornaments, those are the ones I am always looking for. They are my favorite type of ornament. However, you can find a ton of different styles of ornaments there, too! I have also found some really beautiful antique silver and gold ornaments that made the most beautiful addition to my tree last year. I also was able to find a green antique green ornaments that I used here in our guest room. I simply placed them in the urn and stuffed it with some bottle brush trees.
Blankets
Every single blanket you see in this space was thrifted. The beautiful duvet with matching pillows was just so perfect for Christmas time I couldn’t pass it up. I love the green plaid! I am always looking for white blankets while thrifting.
Mixing Old And New Items
You can literally almost find any item you wanted at the thrift store. The list goes on! You could find: Christmas mugs, pillow covers, ribbon, signs, tassels, etc. Once you find your items it is always nice to mix them with some new items. Here in this space I mixed them with some new pillows and a new sign! I love mixing old and new together. Using thrifted items is a really great way to add beautiful touches of Christmas decor through-out your home.
