Front Porch Inspiration For Our Country Cottage

The Porch Before

We have big plans for our new porch. I have been researching a lot about what style of home this is, and I think what I have found is to call the style, “Farmhouse Cottage”. This home was built in 1880, it is the second to oldest home in our town. This porch might not look like a lot, but it has some real potential. I’ve been scrolling through Instagram and Pinterest to find some inspiration. Thankfully, I actually found some nicely renovated homes that have the same face as ours.

The Porch Inspiration

These porches have such a nice farmhouse cottage style that I love. I’ve found that a farmhouse cottage has some distinct characteristics. For example, it seems like they all have a peek on the roof, an open porch, a porch swing, shutters on the windows, flower boxes under the windows, a cute door, etc. I will be keeping these things in mind as I fix up this porch.

Cottage Home Porch Inspiration

I love this front of this home, it is literally almost the exact same as ours except it has the porch on the left side. They have done such a nice job of giving it so much character, it really has that cottage feel with the shutters and the window box. I also love the antique architecture beams. I guess I don’t really know if they are antique because you can actually buy those new in the stores right now and make them look chippy. I also love the swing they added to the porch. The landscaping is also very beautiful. From this photo I am inspired to add some new shutters to the front windows. I also want to add new porch posts, but I am not sure if I want to do this style or do the new raw wood look. I definitely want to add a window box, too. Overall, I am very inspired by this cottage feel. I also love the walkway up to the house. I don’t know whose home this is, but here is the reference to the blog where I found it.

Farmhouse Simplicity Inspiration

Here is a photo of the raw wood porch posts I mentioned above. We aren’t exactly sure what we want to replace the posts with yet. I love the simplicity of this home. I would call this look more of a farmhouse simplicity look. I love how they added two swings on each side of the porch. The white with the wood posts and then the added touch of the brick is really pretty. I also like how they did their landscaping. Everything feels really clean and beautiful. Darker Exterior

Paint is so amazing, it really can change the whole feel of a home. We have thought about painting the home a grey or a darker color. Then we would do the raw wood posts that would really warm the home up. We aren’t sure what we will land on, but it is fun looking at our options. Here is the link for this home.
