Goodwill Side Hustle, three words that describe my life the last couple weeks. I have always loved using paint to transform pieces of furniture. Seeing something go from out-dated or unattractive to being beautiful just brings me joy. The last couple weeks I have really dived into making my passion into a side hustle. I am pleased to say that the biz is going very well. I will share more about this in an upcoming post, but today I want to share another passion I have.
A Passion For You and For Me.
A passion of mine for you and for me is to be able for both of us to curate beautiful homes on a budget. This is what I have done for myself over the last seven years, and now I have turned it into a side hustle.
You guys I am just going to jump to the punch of the purpose of this blog post. You DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT have to spend a lot of money on your home to feel confident about it!! I truly believe and want you to absolutely love the home you live in. Whether you rent a home, or rent an apartment, or maybe you have a home that you don’t love. Whatever situation you are in right now, I truly hope and believe you should love the home you are. That doesn’t mean to you have to completely love your situation, but you can always make the best of things. At least as much as possible.
So, I am hoping that by sharing all about my side hustle that it will inspire you to own the idea of creating a beautiful home for yourselves and for your families all while being on a budget. I know a ton of you are already pursuing the same side hustle which makes me so happy and excited for you guys! Others of you have reached out and shared that you are just starting your side hustle business which is so exciting also! Wherever you are at in this journey I hope you feel encouraged.
The Two “Things”
There is this thing that happens to use when we don’t love the home we are in. We stop wanting to clean it. We stop wanting to buy things to make it cute. Basically we just don’t want to deal with it or think about it, right! We have all been there. But this is a myth! Maybe you will never absolutely love and adore the space you are in. However, you can definitely do things today to make it more livable and home-y.
I would like to introduce you to this other thing we can do. When we don’t love the home we are in, but choose to make the best of it. Attitude is everything right. Well, what if we chose to find a dresser we really love and buy it. I’m talking like a thrift store find that you can paint or maybe not even have to paint. Then put it in your living room and style it with something you love. For Example, maybe some pictures of your family or that yummy candle you love. Then all of a sudden we tend to care and feel a little better about the space we live in.
It is just common “things” that happen. When we take care of something we love it more. I don’t know what the scientific word for this would be, but lets call it Decor Caring. That is such a lame name for it, but it works. Let me know if you can think of a better word to call it.
I Have Been There
Trust me guys, I have been there. We were house hunting a few years ago and just couldn’t find anything. The market was just crazy and nothing was working out. After we lived with a sweet family for two months we finally had to rent this tiny house. We called it our “Cracker Jack Box” that’s how small it was. I literally hated living there. But I chose to make the best of it. I bought a two items off of Zulily just to make it feel more like home. They really did help. I also found a cute little love-seat for the living room, and a medium sized rug. I put up a gallery wall in our bedroom that I loved. The few items I bought, and the little things I did to the house really helped. Although I still didn’t love the home and probably never would have. I chose to take steps to making the home feel more home-y.
The little things I did made that season a lot more bearable. Thankfully a few months later we found the “Brick House” and got to flip it. So the “Cracker Jack Box” season bloomed into a beautiful season of getting to flip the “Brick House. Seasons come and seasons go. So don’t feel discouraged today.
Recently, these photos represent the items of furniture I have Decor Cared about. (Guys, I really need a new name for this. This one is a little lame. They have helped me love these space even more! I hope it inspires you to care a little bit today. Start small, but start.
