Topiary’s add such a nice pop of greenery to any space. They also bring a lot of texture and interest into any room.
I wanted to share my new topiary’s with you guys sooner, but December is such a busy month of celebrations for us. My birthday is the 8th, my hubby and I’s anniversary is the 17th, then Christmas! So December goes by so quickly for us. Somehow I managed to make a quick trip to Lowe’s to buy myself a birthday present. I ended up finding these two lemon spruce topiary’s. I am totally hooked on topiary’s now, they are just too cute. These two have made an appearance in almost every room of my home because they look amazing anywhere, and I can’t decide where I want to leave them at. So, now I want a topiary in every room. However, they are kind of pricey to buy one for every room. And lets be real, greenery can be an investment. A scary investment for a not so green thumb.
Problem solved with these DIY topiary’s. The best part about this project is that I had everything I needed to make these on hand at home.

Here are the materials I used to make these-
- Pot/Vase
- Foam Piece
- Faux Greenery
- Stick, I grabbed mine from outside
- Grocery Bags
- Soil
Here are some pots/vases that I thought would make a really beautiful base to any topiary.
First off take your foam ball and cut a small whole in the middle of it. I had a styrofoam pumpkin I bought at the dollar store this fall, and it worked perfectly as my base. Thankfully, nobody is going to be seeing that part. Now take your wood stick and your faux stems and push them into the center of the foam ball, it should be a tight fit because you want the foam to hold them.
Towards the top of the greenery take a sprig of the greenery and wrap it around the faux stems and the wooden stick to keep them together. Mine had wire in them so it worked perfectly. If your faux sprigs don’t have wire in them feel free to use floral tape. This greenery I used here I actually found at the thrift store for $0.69. So don’t forget to check your thrift stores for greenery. I also made one using greenery I bought at Hobby Lobby.
Now place your foam ball and stems into your pot/vase. Then grab your grocery bags and stuff them around the foam ball and stems to make sure it stays upright. The finishing touch for these is the soil. Put some soil right on top of the grocery bags. This makes them look more natural and it will hide the grocery bags.
And voila! You have a beautiful topiary that cost you next to nothing. These two topiary’s are now in our guest room. One on each side table. I love the added pop of greenery they add to the space. They also bring a nice texture.
Tomorrow I am going to be sharing more about our guest room and I will provide links for you to shop the space. For now I have added a few linked products on my LikeToKnowIt account.
