Amelia’s bathroom is also the bathroom our guests use when they stay with us. This bathroom was in some need for a revamp. The previous shower curtain in the bathroom was the one the previous owners used to stage the house. They just left it there when they moved. It is sad to say that I had not changed it out until now.
I love our drop cloth curtains in our bedroom, and so I thought why not a drop cloth shower curtain. I don’t know what it is about drop cloth, but it gives me all the farmhouse feels. This diy project was truly fun to make, it was also very easy to make so anyone could make it!
To start this project I grabbed-
- 9×7 Canvas Drop Cloth
- Can of black spray paint
- Stencil
- Two Packages of Ring Clips (I used 12)
I didn’t have a stencil on hand so I ended up making one with a piece of thick paper. You can buy a stencil at Walmart, Target, Michael’s, etc. There are several different stencil types out there. Here are some pretty ones I found on Amazon.
To start lay out your drop cloth and make sure it is laying in the right direction for how you want your design to be laid out. Once you are ready to start creating the design grab your stencil and place it near the bottom and then spray paint over the stencil. There is no rhyme or reason to how I laid out my stencils, I just randomly placed the stencil around. You can measure your drop cloth out though if you would like the pattern to be more precise. You can also use a stencil brush to paint onto the stencil if you would like a cleaner look. Again, I did not want a super clean look so I opted for the spray paint. I love the imperfections the spray paint ended up making.
My shower hanger doesn’t come off of the wall so I couldn’t just put the clip rings right on the hanger like I originally wanted to. So I put the clip rings onto the shower hangers I already had on. That way I could just clip the drop cloth right onto them. The drop cloth was really long for our shower so I just folded it over to make one big ruffle. You could however cut the drop cloth down to size. Also, I left the plastic shower curtain on behind my drop cloth, and that’s because drop cloth is not waterproof.
If you make your own drop cloth shower curtain I would absolutely love to see it. You can tag me @homechronicles on Facebook or Instagram.
